Enabling health, independence & wellbeingPAM is a three year project that aims to provide new technology to help people who suffer from Bipolar disorder. Using mobile phones and sensors the project wants to help sufferers identify the early onset of manic or depressive episodes. It is well accepted that such early detection may be able to avoid both full-blown episodes and hospital admissions. This work builds on existing work in this area at the University of Southampton's Institute of Sound and Vibration Research (ISVR) and Centre for Operational Research, Management Science and Information Systems (CORMSIS), the University of Nottingham's School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering , and the University of Stirling's Department of Computing Science and Mathematics . The investigators provide skills and experience across medical devices and sensors, medical signal processing, communications and software services, and Operational Research modelling. This mix is essential to the success of the project, and provides an interesting and distinct interdisciplinary grouping.
